The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, launched the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana on 29th February 2024 to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar (RTS) and empower households to generate their own electricity.
With a total outlay of ₹75,021 crore, the scheme runs till FY 2026-27, aiming to provide up to 300 units of free electricity per month to 1 crore households.

📝 How to Apply: Step-by-Step
- Register at pmsuryaghar.gov.in using mobile & email OTP
- Choose if vendor will assist with application
- Click "Apply for Rooftop Solar" → Auto-fill DISCOM using consumer number
- After approval, select vendor & submit bank details
- Post-installation, vendor uploads plant details
- DISCOM inspects and approves → Subsidy credited post-verification
